Progress Update 10/11/2025

Further work on background systems, such as fixing saving, is paired with progress on numerous exciting features this week. Most notably, progress on terrain, some graphics effects, and work on auto-evo. Work on these features will likely continue through this upcoming week, along with continuous balancing improvements.
To ensure that proper saving is implemented, we have decided to push back Thrive's next release by, at the most, two weeks. Good news, however: enough progress has been made over these past few weeks, that the next release of Thrive will officially be 0.9!
Programming
- New DevBuild for our patrons:
- Added new terrain chunk types. Vents now have properly configured chunk types that really exist there.
- Auto-evo now has bonus calculations from the chemoreceptor
- Further tweaked current particles by adding different depth, colour and sizing per patch type
- Fixed ice chunks not playing the dissolve animation
- Fixed GUI focus jumping a lot when resolving a key rebinding conflict
- Fixed a code style problem
- Updated to gdUnit4 6.0.0
- Updated translations
Graphics
- More substantial variety in patch terrain has now been implemented, with more items on the way.
- Further improvements to current visuals, enabling depth and variation in colors.
- Improvement to ice chunk effects, enabling them to properly dissolve upon contact instead of disappearing.
Gameplay
- Thermosynthesis now produces glucose instead of ATP, enabling more consistent planning around this metabolic strategy.
- Discussion on the background changing slightly based on compound availability.
- Further progress on some background stories for Thrive's loading screens.
- Chemo-receptors are now considered by auto-evo.
