Progress Update 5/31/2025
Progress remains steady two weeks after the hotfix. Some graphical improvements have been finished this week, as well as an important fix to the auto-evo. And, incase you missed the news, Thrive is also now available for Mac users!
Starting this upcoming week, our paid programmer will be taking their vacation from Thrive until the 7th of July. Progress will appear to slow down in this period, as code review and implementation will be reduced for this duration of time. Rest assured however that work on Thrive will proceed regardless, and that communication from the development team will remain constant.
Programming
- New DevBuild for our patrons:
- Converted old Godot 3 node references to new Godot 4 approach. This large overhaul of the code should hopefully help mitigate the Godot scene loading bug, and should make long playthroughs more stable.
- Hydrogenosome organelle implementation into the game. A eukaryotic variant of the hydrogenase organelle for a more powerful organelle using clostridial fermentation to create ATP.
- Tweaked our code checking tools to not report false positives on some Godot scene files
- Updated Translations
Graphics
- A new toggleable ripple effect is implemented - microbes now distort the water around them
- New hydrogenesome model implemented.
Below, the first picture shows the distortion effect, with ripples surrounding microbes as they move throughout the world. The second picture shows the new hydrogenosome models, and also highlights the new icon.
Gameplay
- With metabolic stability reworked in auto-evo, sessile organisms should evolve more frequently; change done by a new contributor: CritikalH1T-pon3.
- Some discussion on the developer forum regarding the behavior editor.
Sound
- Nothing substantial.
Theory
- Nothing substantial.
Outreach
- Nothing substantial.
Other
- As was announced earlier this week, Thrive is now available on Mac!
