Progress Update Banner 2026-02-28

As said last week, we delayed 1.0.1 to try to fit in a few more things, in which we succeeded. So today we are in feature freeze, and we have a release candidate build for all those interested to test before the full release next week. Of course, we want that release to be as bug-free as possible, so we appreciate any and all help!

Those particular features 1.0.1 was delayed for are environmental tolerances for Multicellular species and an entirely new UI for environmental tolerances. The former is of course another step in making the Multicellular stage a full-fledged gameplay experience. As for the UI, it does a better job of showing when cell parts are affecting your tolerances, and I personally find it a lot easier to use, especially the pressure tolerance. But there's also additional changes that made it into this build, like an overhaul of patch currents, and the display of average cell specialisation in the Multicellular editor.

But the release candidate contains many more features you likely have not played with yet. For example the cell specialisation system in general and controlling multicellular growth order. So take a look below for the full list of this week's developments, find the release candidate in your Thrive launcher for testing and we'll see you in a week for the full release of Thrive 1.0.1!

Programming

  • New Devbuild available to our Patreon Supporters:
    • Overhauled the tolerances editing GUI entirely
    • Implemented tolerances for the multicellular stage
    • Updated biome current settings to have much more varied currents across different patches
    • Made the specialization feature show average specialization in the multicellular editor
    • Small GUI tweaks to organelle popup menu and microbe HUD
    • Small tweaks to the Thriveopedia GUI and a fix to the side panel collapse animation
    • Fixed weird connection lines appearing in multicellular colonies that were spawned fully grown
    • Fixed regression with process toggle buttons not working
    • Added ignoring for more release mode signal disconnect errors so that they aren't reported as the recent reports have not been useful at all about them
    • Updated Thriveopedia text
    • Updated dependency packages
    • Updated translations

Graphics

Gameplay

  • New UI for handling environmental tolerances, more clearly showing effects coming from cell parts.

  • Environmental tolerances are now also implemented for Multicellular species. Effects from cell parts take the average of all cells.
  • More variation implemented in current patterns between patch types.
  • The multicellular editor now shows the average specialisation across all cells.
