Progress Update 2/14/2026
This week, the game code caught up to the Multicellular Stage officially not being a prototype anymore. Trying to enter it no longer warns you about it being a prototype, and instead you get that warning when trying to advance to Macroscopic. Similarly, our provisional “you won the game” message now appears when you reach 10 cells in Multicellular. There's also a more direct gameplay change: When first entering the Multicellular Stage, you now start with an actual multicellular organism of 3 cells, instead of just 1. This blends better with the end of the Microbe Stage (colonies) and makes clear what the focus of the new stage is.
Meanwhile, over on the developer forums, we had discussions on Microbe Stage polishing, particularly on AI using the signalling agent. But also on a concept for size transitions in the Multicellular Stage and a a proposal for a cell part adjacency system. The latter we decided against because it would ultimately still be too much work for too little gain, and on top of that potentially confusing for players.
Next week is the last week for new features to be added before feature freeze starts to prepare for the release of 1.0.1 on the 28th. So look below for the full progress list if you're interested, and we'll see you next week!
Programming
- New Devbuild available to our Patreon Supporters:
- Initial multicellular body plan now consists of 3 cells
- Marked multicellular as no longer a prototype
- Moved the game win condition to the multicellular stage from microbe
- Reduced migration sizes in auto-evo
- The option to show ATP balance without external resources now allows compounds that the cell itself can generate
- Removed the option to disable the prototypes on new game
- Fixed the multicellular editor not updating editor hover positions which was incorrect but didn't cause visible bugs yet with the MP system
- Added some missing periods to our README file
- Updated System.IO.Hashing from 10.0.2 to 10.0.3
- Updated translations
