Progress Update 03/09/2024
We're a week into the godot 4 conversion now, and having dedicated our efforts on this task, we have unfortunately left little to visually show for our efforts. The font was broken and must be redone in every dialogue, pretty much every texture no longer imported correctly, and the GUI scaling decided it no longer wanted to play by the rules.
The conversion has undoubtedly been a chaotic endeavor, but good progress has been made. Hopefully this is the last time we need to totally re…

It's been a week now since our release of 0.6.5, and aside from a few niche issues that should now be fixed in the latest devbuild, everything seems to be running smoothly.
With the release out of the way, development has since moved on to the conversion of Thrive to Godot 4, which is quite the undertaking. This change is unlikely to result in any palpable differences on the player side of things, but should loosen up some of the constraints that we have felt with the older versions…

We now have a release candidate available for the upcoming release of 0.6.5 this week. This upcoming update brings a couple of impactful features relating to player progression such as the new fog of war that obscures the map until the player explores, and the unlocking system for new parts as the player plays the game. These are accompanied by some changes to thread-handling in an effort to increase game performance, and a large amount of miscellaneous bugfixes.
If you would like t…

Not much to write home about this week, as there hasn't been any significant development on new features aside from work on the sprinting prototype. Much of the focus this week has been on improving the multithreading system of Thrive in pursuit of better and more efficient performance. The science behind this is pretty complex, but it should hopefully further improve performance for those with enough available threads to support the system.

Progress Update 02/03/2024
We've had a fair share of UI changes this week such as visually displaying species viewed in the generation report tab in the editor, as well as a few bugs squashed thanks to some helpful reports that brought them to our attention.
Between the changes we have pushed into the next release, our talented developers have been working away at their own various prototypes and pet projects for Thrive, such as a sprinting mechanic prototype and some work on the player camera in later stages…

Some more bugs hunted down this week, as we have discovered some leftover artifacts from the previous update. There are some more bugfixes that did not make it into the BOTD for this week, so you may spot them in the future instead.
There's also a pretty long-awaited new feature: ejecting engulfed things button. This new feature will allow the player to eject too toxic cells that aren't worth taking damage to digest compounds from.
Also this week we released a new version of…

This week we've seen a good variety of miscellaneous bugfixes related to some of the new features that were implemented just last week, as well as some holdovers from the previous public update. Alongside these bugfixes was a fundamental change to our auto-evo prediction panel, which now prioritizes displaying the energy your species manages to collect rather than just population.
New DevBuild for our patrons:
Auto-evo prediction now shows the gained energ…
Progress Update 01/13/2024
Some exciting developments this week as we have successfully implemented an unlocking system for parts in Thrive. This highly anticipated feature provides a greater sense of progress in the game by gradually introducing new options to the player as they evolve. The idea behind our system of unlocks is to only introduce parts at a time when they are needed or appropriate, thus eliminating any potential confusion or decision paralysis on the part of new players.
Note that there may po…

It's a brand new year, and development has been picking up once again to bring along fresh new features and bugfixes. Better yet, our paid employee is now off winter vacation and will be returning to development, meaning you can look forward to a steady pace of development here on.
There's still a little bit of work to be done fixing the post ECS-refactor issues that arose from the previous update, but once that is done and out of the way, you can look forward to some updates to our…
